This brass decoration has been made by casting. Greg (Thorkil) made models first (he is a sculptor, so it is not a problem for him) and than he gave it to our caster. Then Greg needed to clean every piece, cut it and fit to each element. This is time-consuming work.
But on different pieces he also makes engraving, etching or other techniques.
Now I will try in French.

Cette décoration en laiton ce sont des moulages (?). Premièrement Greg (Thorkil) a fait des modèles (il est un sculpteur, ainsi ce n'est pas un problème pour lui) et plus tard il l'a donnée à notre fondeur. Quand le founder a fait son travail, Greg a dû nettoyer chaque chose, l'a coupé et s'est adapté à chaque élément. C'est un travail tres long.
Mais sur différents choses il fait également la gravure, gravure avec acid ou d'autres techniques.

You use casting for the lys decoration ? François Larcheveque made them whit drill and file kiss. Verry, verry long process. He want to make all the armor, but the helmet take to much time, then, He put the project on a hold...

Yes, I used castings this time. Those arms didn't have any decoration, so I could choose the technique. But finishing those castings was also difficult. I received full casting - without open-work details, so I needed to make open-work details with drill. And my castings were strait borders, so I needed to bend them to achieve the same profile as elements of arms. During this process casting were broking, because casted brass is very fragile, breakable...

I have made decoration with drill and file several times (for example with Gnezdovo helmet). Some time ago I started to make gothic gauntlets based on original from Dresno and I am making decoration with drill and file only. Those gauntlets are in spring steel, so it is even harder to make this than in brass. (I am icluding photo of original gauntlets).



So, I know the pain of making decoration with using only drill and file. I understand why François stoped making full armour in this techinque for a while.

Hmm... As I know, no - I am not his brother. But if I would have been his brother, why I would be a poor guy? He seems to be very nice guy.

Thanks, yes, I make stuff for customers all the time. This is my work. I have really little time to make something for myself.
