Flat or round riveted Hauberk?

Actually, I still do not understand and know what type of riveted mail was available in the XII century.

Round Ring Riveted Mail (8mm)

or they were all available in the XII century? (somebody said to me than flat rings were available for richest knights).

Please inform me about. I'm looking to buy an hauberk with a camail, so I need some advise. Thanks.

If I remember correctly, the round shaped type is more frequently founded during the XII° century. This does not mean that the flat shaped didn't exist but simply is less frequent.

I think the flat shaped becomes frequent during the last quarter of the XIII° century.

I confirm !

We have no evidence of flat riveted mail before the XIV century. Some flat solid rings (mixed with riveted round rings) have been found earlier, but no flat riveted rings.

Another type of quite common mails from the XII c. are lenticular mails. But I don't know any retailer selling this kind of mail...

Yes Yvan, lenticular and I have had a very interesting talk with our friend Rechignac in Pontoise about the making of these rings... Amazing because somtimes the answer is in the simplicity. (This looks like a Bible verset ).
